A recent report showed that Calgary home starts are outpacing the 2008 figures.   There were over 830 starts in November alone.  The numbers are from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

Analysts are saying that the new demand for home construction is due to the fact that mortgage rates are still low and fewer homes on the market.  They claim the market in Calgary is seeing strong demand for single family homes.

After all of the buying in the second and third quarters, inventories are low and builders have decided to ramp up their production to supplement the market, keeping prices stable and demand steady.

Alberta saw a 70% increase in units started during November, compared to one year ago.
Overall starts in 2009 are still down 34% from the previous year, but the rise in activity can be looked upon as a sign of strength.
